On your phone (Google Maps)

1. Open Google Maps and find the place.
2. Press and hold on the exact spot until a red pin drops.
3. The coordinates appear in the search bar at the top (or in the info panel at the bottom), for example 40.6892, -74.0445 (the Statue of Liberty).
4. Tap them to copy.

On your phone (Apple Maps)

1. Press and hold on the spot to drop a pin.
2. Swipe up on the info card. The latitude and longitude are listed near the bottom.

On a computer

1. Open Google Maps in your browser.
2. Right-click the exact spot.
3. The first line of the menu shows the coordinates. Click it to copy.

Tips for engraving coordinates

• Four decimal places are plenty. That's accurate to within about 10 meters, and it fits beautifully on a small disc or bar.
• Keep the minus sign or use N/S/E/W. In the US, the longitude is negative (or "W"). For example, 40.6892° N, 74.0445° W.
• Add a date or a word on the back, like "Where it all began" or your wedding date.
